About Ask & Embla Wood Co.

In Norse mythology, Ask and Embla were the first humans – formed from two trees and brought to life by Odin and his brothers.

Named after the ash (Ask ᛇ) and vine (Embla ᛗ), their story speaks to beginnings, nature, and the enduring human tradition of learning by making.

At Ask & Embla Wood Co., children and teens get to do just that. Using real materials and real tools, they measure, cut, shape, and assemble timber into functional objects designed to last.

Our sessions are intentionally small (max five participants) and carefully guided. We slow the pace, encourage focus, and create space for skills to emerge – the kind of skills that don’t always get a chance to shine in everyday life. Alongside technical ability, children develop patience, problem-solving, and quiet confidence.

The Person Behind the Workshop

Originally from Norway, Sindre grew up surrounded by nature and woodcraft. With a background in engineering, workplace training, and disability employment support - three very different fields connected by one belief: that people are more capable than they're often given credit for, and that the right environment makes all the difference.

Becoming a father made him realise what those early making experiences had truly given him: not just the ability to build objects, but the capacity to build character, resilience, and independence.

Sindre still remembers the cutting board he made at six, the flute carved at eight, and the stool built at nine – pieces his mother keeps to this day.

Ask & Embla Wood Co. grew from a simple belief: when children create something functional with their own hands, they build more than a project. They build capability.

In a fast-moving world, making offers an anchor of achievement. There is a quiet strength in a child stepping back from their work and saying, “I made this myself.”

Sindre holds a Working With Children Check and $20M public liability insurance.
