In this small-group adult pop-up workshop in Dee Why, you’ll build a solid hardwood serving tray—shaping contrasting gumtree handles, refining the European beechwood body, and finishing it with food-safe oil.
Four hours of calm, focused, hands-on woodworking that leaves you with a functional, beautiful piece and something you can smugly show off at dinner.
You’ll work with a considered mix of hand tools and workshop equipment under careful guidance. No rushing—just you, timber, and a bit of healthy saw-cial interaction.
What you’ll do:
  • Design, prepare, and refine the tray body
  • Cut and shape the gumtree handle by hand
  • Measure, mark, drill, and chisel your pieces accurately
  • Assemble the tray with dowels and food-safe glue
  • Sand and oil/wax-finish to bring out the natural grain
Design note:
The tray shown is a prototype. You’ll design your own—handles, edges, and finish. You’ll leave with a finished hardwood tray built to last. Each piece is one of a kind. And yes, it will serve you well :)
