Real Tools. Real Projects. Real Growth.
A small-group woodworking programme for children aged 8-16.
Rooted in the Scandinavian Sløyd tradition - the belief that making things by hand builds confidence, independence, and character.
Available sessions:
  • Thursday 12-2pm
  • Monday, Thursday and Friday 4-6pm
Maximum 5 students per session.
Enrolment and Pricing
  • The full Term 2 runs 22 April to 3 July (11 sessions at $60 per session).
  • Mid-term enrolments welcome, see below.
How to book

  • Next page, under "ticket type", choose the number of sessions remaining to the end of term.
  • Not sure how many sessions? Check the pricing guide in the listing photos, or just message us.
How it works
Sessions are project-led and self-paced. Each child works on their own build at their own level. Beginners are supported from the ground up; returners are challenged with added complexity. Kids can work on a suggested project or bring their own idea - complexity is always adjusted to skill level.
Why parents choose Ask & Embla
  • Small by design: Max 5 students. Every child is seen, supported, and appropriately challenged.
  • Visible progress: Parents see the project develop week to week. No guessing whether it was a good session.
  • Screen-free and genuinely hands-on: Most children who struggle to focus in conventional settings find their stride here.
Safety and qualifications
Current Working With Children Check. First Aid certified.
Missed sessions
If your child needs to miss a week, just let us know and we can arrange a Saturday make-up session at no extra cost.
What you'll get
  • All timber, materials and safety gear.
  • Step-by-step guidance across design, measuring, cutting, shaping, assembling and finishing.

FAQ

What age range is this suitable for?
Generally suitable for ages 8+, as this is typically the age where kids can focus for longer periods, follow instructions safely, and have the coordination and strength needed for woodworking tools. That said, every child is different, and we’ve had younger children join successfully too. If you’re unsure, feel free to message or call us, and we can chat about whether it’s the right fit for your child.
What will the kids learn?
Each session covers practical woodworking skills in a safe, guided environment - tool use, safety, measuring, hand‑skills, and completing simple projects.
Is this suitable for neurodivergent kids?
Yes. We aim to create a calm, supportive, and predictable environment. If your child has particular needs, feel free to message us. We’re happy to make adjustments where we can.
See more FAQs
What do we need to bring?
Closed shoes and a water bottle. We provide everything else - tools, materials, and safety gear.
Do different ages work together?
Yes - but each child works at their own level. An 8-year-old and a 16-year-old will be working on different challenges within the same session.

Sindre is a Norwegian maker, tinkerer, and parent, with a background in engineering and community programs. After stepping away from corporate life, he chose to focus on what mattered most to him: working with his hands, sharing his passion for woodworking, and helping children experience the satisfaction of creating something real.
Sindre believes woodworking is more than making objects. It’s about slowing down, problem-solving, and building confidence through doing. As a parent, he understands that children learn best when they’re given time, guidance, and space to explore.
Sessions follow Scandinavian principles of simplicity and functionality. Children work independently but with guidance, developing patience, attention to detail, and practical skills in a small, supportive group.
Sindre holds a current Working With Children Check, ensuring every session is safe, welcoming, and thoughtfully run.
