A Programme Designed for Homeschoolers
A small-group woodworking programme designed specifically for homeschool families who want meaningful, real-world, maker-based learning without being bound to a school-style timetable.
  • Flexible scheduling: weekly, fortnightly, term-based; one-off intensives or project blocks
  • Sessions can arranged privately to suit your family’s rhythm
  • Rooted in the Scandinavian Sløyd tradition, where making by hand builds confidence, character, and independence
  • Calm, structured workshop environment ideal for focused learning
  • Micro-groups (max 5) so every child is seen, supported, and challenged appropriately
Every homeschooler’s timetable is different. Sessions are designed to be adaptable: choose weekly, fortnightly, intensives or project-based learning - whatever fits your flow.
Group Size: 2 - 5 learners
  • Sessions run with a minimum of two children. You’re welcome to book with siblings, friends, or connect with other homeschool families to form a small group.
  • If you're solo, we can also often help pair families or suggest alternative options.
How It Works (Built for Flexibility):
Instead of fixed term dates, homeschool sessions are:
  • Booked when it suits you: weekdays, late mornings, afternoons, or mixed
  • Project-based or skill-based: multi-session builds or one-off focused workshops
  • Suitable for ages 8–16: beginners welcomed, experienced makers challenged
  • Sibling-friendly and group-friendly: perfect for small homeschool groups wanting to learn together
Safety & Qualifications:
  • Current Working With Children Check
  • First Aid certified
  • Age-appropriate tools, PPE, and gradual tool introduction
Missed Sessions:
Life happens. If your child needs to miss a scheduled session, they’re welcome to join a Sunday session at no extra cost to continue their project. Just let us know ahead so we can manage numbers safely.
Pricing & Session Times
  • We’ve listed a few regular homeschool‑friendly class times (Thu/Fri around midday). If these suit you, feel free to book directly.
  • If not, please reach out. Homeschool schedules vary so much, and we’re very happy to create a session that suits your family. We only need a minimum of two students to open a class, and we're very flexible with days and times
  • Note: The listed price is a guideline only, based on our Afterschool Programme (2 hours weekly over an 11‑week term).
What you'll get
What they'll learn:
Woodworking integrates naturally with homeschool learning goals:
  • Maths: Measurement, fractions, angles, ratios.
  • Physics: Forces, leverage, load-bearing, material behaviour.
  • Design Thinking: Planning, iteration, sequencing, reviewing fit before committing.
  • Communication: Technical vocabulary, explaining choices, presenting finished work.
  • Executive Function: Focus, patience, persistence, problem-solving, decision-making.
In short: Less worksheet. More workshop.
What they'll do:
  • Design and measure: workable plans, accurate marking, a maker's mindset
  • Cut and shape: hand tools, plus supervised power tools for older or more experienced students
  • Problem-solve, adjust and fit: making parts meet, work and last
  • Assemble and finish: sanding, detailing, protective finishes
  • Take home: a polished, functional project built entirely by them
What they’ll take home:
Beyond the finished wooden project, children leave with something far more important:
  • Confidence: the lived proof they can build something real and functional with their own hands.
  • Independence: making decisions, solving problems, trusting themselves.
  • Resilience: learning that mistakes are just part of the making process.
  • Calm focus: the grounding, regulating effect of working with real tools.
  • Pride & identity: seeing themselves as capable makers.
These are the foundations of lifelong learning - the things that stay long after the wood is cut.

FAQ

Are these the only times available?
No - these are our public weekly times as a starting point. If you need a different day or time, just contact us. We’re flexible and only require a minimum of 2 students to open a class.
What age range is this suitable for?
Generally suitable for ages 8+, as this is typically the age where kids can focus for longer periods, follow instructions safely, and have the coordination and strength needed for woodworking tools. That said, every child is different, and we’ve had younger children join successfully too. If you’re unsure, feel free to message or call us, and we can chat about whether it’s the right fit for your child.
Can siblings or parents stay?
Yes! Homeschool routines vary, so siblings and parents are welcome to stay or relax nearby. We’re located behind The Builders Club, which offers food, and there are plenty of nearby places and activities around Dee Why if you prefer to step out.

Both. You can join casually or book multiple weeks. We also offer drop‑in Sunday sessions (4 hours) - please see our other listing for details.
What if we want to bring a group?
Perfect! If you have a homeschool pod or a group of friends, we can open a private session for you (minimum 2 kids).
What if we’ve never done woodworking before?
No problem at all - beginners are absolutely welcome. Everything is taught step‑by‑step, with age‑appropriate tools and guidance.
Is this suitable for neurodivergent kids?
Yes. We aim to create a calm, supportive, and predictable environment. If your child has particular needs, feel free to message us. We’re happy to make adjustments where we can.

Sindre is a Norwegian maker, tinkerer, and parent, with a background in engineering and community programs. After stepping away from corporate life, he chose to focus on what mattered most to him: working with his hands, sharing his passion for woodworking, and helping children experience the satisfaction of creating something real.
Sindre believes woodworking is more than making objects. It’s about slowing down, problem-solving, and building confidence through doing. As a parent, he understands that children learn best when they’re given time, guidance, and space to explore.
Sessions follow Scandinavian principles of simplicity and functionality. Children work independently but with guidance, developing patience, attention to detail, and practical skills in a small, supportive group.
Sindre holds a current Working With Children Check, ensuring every session is safe, welcoming, and thoughtfully run.
